Changes during the LS block this year include additional teaching time for teachers and working time for students. Instead of one block being split into two LS periods the first half is going to stay about the same and the second half will be called “Charger Time.” According to Principal Kacur, the first half is similar to last year in that it is still a constant rotation of classes, starting with period one on the first day of school. However, during this time, teachers will be able to teach new material, require graded assignments, re-teach material and take attendance. The second half of the block, Charger Time, is going to work differently. If you do not have below a C in any class, you are a “Charger in Good Standing” James Kacur said. This means students have the choice to go to any designated area they would like to visit. These designated areas will be places such as the cafeteria and library. Students who do not have Charger in Good Standing status will be placed in whatever the class is they have below a C in. Charger Time will not be start until the first interim, when teachers will get to assess their students for the first time. However, the Freshman will be part of the Freshman Transition Program and will be participating in mandatory preplanned activities instead of Charger Time.
